Black Rock Pictures LA - Santa Monica area close to the Pier. Santa Monica is a city in western Los Angeles County, California, USA. Situated on Santa Monica Bay, it is surrounded on three sides by the city of Los Angeles — Pacific Palisades on the northwest, Brentwood on the north, West Los Angeles on the northeast, Mar Vista on the east, and Venice on the southeast. The Census Bureau 2008 population estimate for Santa Monica is 87664. Santa Monica is named for Saint Monica of Hippo because the area on which the city is now located was first visited by Spaniards on her feast day. In the skateboard and surfing communities, Santa Monica's Ocean Park neighborhood (and the neighboring section of Venice) is referred to as Dogtown. Because of its agreeable climate, Santa Monica had become a famed resort town by the early 20th century. The city has experienced a boom since the late 1980s through the revitalization of its downtown core with significant job growth and increased tourism.

An American-born soprano of Croatian descent who never sang at the Metropolitan Opera, she is well-known to fans of Franco Corelli as his co-star in the 1958 RAI TV production of Turandot, a role which she sang 104 times. Lucille Udovich studied singing, violin and piano at the Community Music School in San Francisco, later continuing her study in New York at Columbia University and Hunter College. During this period Udovich sang church music and appeared in musical comedies, including a part in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. She appeared in a series of concerts around Milan, and then moved to Rome, where she resided for the rest of her life. Beniamino Gigli invited her to perform with him in one of his last concert tours in Italy. Miss Udovich made her opera debut in Agnese di Hohenstaufen di Spontini in 1954 at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino with Franco Corelli and Giangiacomo Guelfi. She performed in the Rome Opera, Comunale of Florence, Fenice of Venice, and the San Carlo of Naples. At the Glyndebourne Festival Opera she sang Elettra in Mozart's Idomeneo. She was invited to Torre del Lago for the 100th anniversary of Puccini. Outside Italy, she sang in Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Barcelona, Zagreb, Ankara, Tel Aviv, Oslo, Dublin, Paris and London. In the United States she performed in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, New Orleans, and Houston. Miss Udovich suffered from spinal problems which shortened her career. This is a good snapshot of a Friday night at Tower Video on Sunset Blvd in Los Angeles. Friday nights were the highest point of the week at video stores in the 80s. The guy they have here is obviously being intentionally geeky and annoying, but the customers seem to be going with it. Next we have a test of a few video cameras of the moment shot at Venice Beach- this was when over-the-shoulder portable VCRs had been completely replaced by one-piece camcorder units. Finally we have a Dentyne commercial, which carries the familiar "Brush your breath" slogan, but dumps that song for a rendition of "Just The Two Of Us" (wonder if YouTube's auto-copyright thingy will recognize it?)

Taco trucks are well known in Los Angeles, and can typically be found parked adjacent to construction sites by day and social hangouts at night. The recent surge in mobile catering has sparked many unique food experiences like "Kogi". It started when the owner of The Brig on Abbot Kinney Boulevard invited Kogi to serve tacos in the adjacent parking lot. After great reception, Kogi instantly branched out to include four trucks that circulate throughout Los Angeles. But no matter where they are parked, Chef Roy Choi, co-founder of Kogi, feels Venice is home. He refers specifically to the way people stay to eat. Rather than taking food and driving off, people hang around, order, eat, and then order some more.
